Back from Holidays!
Well we're back from B.C.!
This was Edie's longest trip away from home, and Jenn and my longest trips away in many years...
We road tripped out to B.C., avoiding a heat wave in Calgary for some more mild weather on Salt Spring Island. Renting a house, we stayed on the coast for a few weeks. It was really beautiful out there - we saw some whales, had daily visits from a little seal, and some some bald eagles. We got to play on the beach and go for a swim in the ocean, which was surprisingly not that cold. Overall we got to relax and unwind, a much needed break after a busy year so far.
Salt Spring Island was good but we didn't realize how remote the house we rented was - 40 minutes on the worst road I've ever driven on - so it was hard to make quick trips anywhere, even for groceries or to the playground! We spent a lot of time playing on the deck, going for little walks by the house, wagon riding, boat watching. It took a bit of getting used to the slower way of life! While we were out there, we had some visits from Edie's Nana & Gigi, as well as friends Becky and Craig.
On the way home, we spent a few days in Victoria, where we realized that we're probably city folk - Victoria was really beautiful. We walked around a lot there, saw some undersea life, and just hung out.
The road trip home was alright. That long in the car is a bit hard for Edie; I think she got pretty bored sitting in the backseat.
