Road Trippin' and Solid Food
Last week we were off on a mini-adventure through southern Alberta. We packed up and headed down to Medicine Hat, 40-mile lake, and Writing-On-Stone, then back again.
Edie was in good spirits the whole way and is proving to be one tough little camper!

Hanging out at Nana and Gigi's house.

Mom and Edie all set to go for a hike in Writing-On-Stone.

The family, taking a break on a hoodoo bench.

A couple years back, Jenn and I talked about canoe camping down this river, just stopping at the side whenever we felt like setting up camp and taking our time, letting the river do most of the work... This is the first time I've seen this river, I can tell it'd be a really cool trip. Maybe in a couple of years when Edie can swim...

Our first attempt at camping suddenly became ultra-luxurious when our friends Wendy and Darren put us up in their trailer, with their two daughters Hannah and Charlie. I'm glad they did - with temperatures in the mid 30s all week, I don't think Edie would have had the best time napping in the tent or car! Edie had good fun playing with her new friends.

Edie and Nana hanging out.

It was really nice out the whole time we were there - although Edie can't spend much time in the sun, she sure likes being outdoors!

Road trips are fun!! Where are we going next?!

While we were down there, we witnessed a few prairie fires. This one started just a metre off the side of the highway and then raged across the prairie. It was most likely a tossed cigarette butt.
I never really thought about how serious these fires were until Darren told us a story of a fire he witnessed, where there was a pickup truck racing across the fields, and every time they got to a fence they'd hack it down - and then off to the next fence. Behind them, a herd of horses ran full speed, with the flames just behind them.

When we got back to Calgary, Edie had a visit from her Uncle Michael.

Then, she got to taste solid food for the first time! Her first meal, shown above.

Mixed reviews.
